Newcastle-based recruiters report record year

Thorn Baker, a Newcastle-based recruitment consultancy, has reported its highest turnover to date.

The firm, which specialises in recruitment across a number of sectors including construction and engineering, has seen turnover increase from £21m to almost £25m.

Paul Jackman, a director at the firm, believes that this is largely down to their new client wins and the hard work of his staff.

He said: “Thorn Baker has had a really great year - we couldn’t be more proud of the efforts of our whole team.

“In the past ten months alone, we have seen more than 400 new clients sign up which is fantastic and has contributed hugely to our success.

“As a result, we have been able to create more job opportunities, further engage our workforce and initiate better training schemes for our staff.

“Last year, we invested heavily in hiring and developing the capability of our people, to provide a stronger leadership team and have also been able to consider expansion.

“We have always had a clear vision of what we want to achieve and we hope that by investing in these opportunities, we will be able to provide our clients with a better service.”

Figures released by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) showed that the national recruitment industry had grown by eight per cent.

Paul added: “We have seen our biggest growth across our construction, facilities management and industrial divisions.

“It’s reassuring to see that the recruitment industry is on the up and we’re delighted to have a growing market share.

“Everyone at Thorn Baker is driven to build on this success and we are on track to succeed with our ambitious five year growth plan.”

Thorn Baker works across six sectors including construction, industrial, office and professional, technical and engineering, estates, facilities management and sales.
