Accountants charity efforts add up

Yorkshire’s largest independent firm of Chartered Accountants has raised over £14,000 for both local and national charities following a year of activities that have seen BHP’s staff take part in a huge range of fundraising events.

BHP Partner Jane Marshall, who chairs the firm’s CSR committee, says: “We are delighted with the total amount raised. Everybody at the firm has made a real effort and either taken part in an event or supported colleagues through sponsorship, which means we have smashed our original target of £10,000.”

The £14,143 will be distributed to 26 charities including St. Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds, Sheffield Hospitals Charity, Ashgate Hospice in Chesterfield, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield, South Yorkshire animal charity Rain Rescue, Sheffield-based Whirlow Hall Farm and blood bike charity Whiteknights Emergency Voluntary Service.

National charities including Music and the Deaf, Sports Relief, Macmillan Cancer Support, Children In Need, British Legion, Save the Children, and The Alzheimer’s Trust will also benefit from the firm’s efforts.

Jane adds: “Previously we have nominated one charity to support every 12 months, but this year following feedback from our staff, we decided to get behind a wide range of deserving local and national charities. This means we have been able to support an array of charities that are close to peoples’ hearts within our organisation, covering everything from children’s health and well-being to research into life-threatening diseases as well as end-of-life care, animal welfare and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We have raised more than any year before, because people are really motivated by supporting the causes that matter to them personally.”

To raise the money BHP’s staff participated in over 30 events and activities including marathons, dinners, quizzes, fancy dress challenges, a car wash, bake sales, dress-down days, golf days, raffles, numerous sweepstakes, the Knaresborough bed race and a Macmillan Coffee morning.
