Channel 5 series to showcase life at Liverpool John Lennon Airport

A new series starting this week on Channel 5 will aim to show viewers what daily life is like in Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA).

Camera crews spent more than three months at the facility earlier this year capturing footage for The Holiday Airport, which is scheduled for broadcast this Thursday (July 16th) at 8pm.

Although much of the show will focus on the stories of the passengers as they make their way through the facility, it will also show behind-the-scenes footage of the LJLA employees whose job it is to enhance every holidaymaker’s journey experience.

The company behind the programme, Plimsoll Productions, first approached the airport nearly a year ago to pitch the idea of creating a television programme centred around LJLA. Following talks, management agreed to give the camera crews unique access to various areas on site.

The head of PR at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Robin Tudor, said: “Passengers tell us what a great experience they have when travelling through the airport at the start of their holiday and I’m sure this series will help to capture and share this with viewers.

“It is the employees that work here who help to create this relaxed, friendly, hassle-free environment, though most of their work goes on behind the scenes.”

He added: “We hope that this series will give viewers the chance to discover just how much goes on the airport. I think it’s fair to say that the programme makers were amazed to see all the other activities that go on over and above the day to day workings.”

The series, spread over seven episodes, will show the diversity of the activities that take place at the airport. One installment will show drivers trying out a supercar on the LJLA taxiway, while another will focus on the launch of a new fitness facility for airport staff.
