Citylabs in Manchester to welcome two new medtech organisations

Real estate advisory firm Colliers International has secured two lettings at Manchester’s £25m Citylabs biomedical centre, with two medical technology companies set to move into the property.

Healthcare organisation MAC Clinical Research, which carries out clinical trials to develop treatments for medical conditions, has signed a nine-year lease for 16,000 sq ft of space on the first floor at Citylabs. It will use its new base as a facility for clinical research in translational medicine and neuroscience.

Meanwhile, non-for-profit organisation Nuffield Health has taken 7,279 sq ft on the same floor, also for nine years, where it will provide X-ray, MRI, CT, cardiac, ultrasound and mammography services. Nuffield Health expects to be offering private GP appointments, health assessments and physiotherapy sessions later this year.

Colliers International’s director of national offices at its Manchester branch, Peter Gallagher, said: “The Oxford Road Corridor represents a world-class knowledge cluster of excellence in one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy and this space is proving ideal for clinical, biomedical, research and medical support service related uses.”

Colliers secured both lettings on behalf of ICON, a clinical research organisation and provider of outsourced development services.

Representing a collaborative developmental effort between Manchester City Council, Manchester Science Partnerships, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and property firm Bruntwood, Citylabs is a 100,000 sq ft biomedical centre built on the site of the former Royal Eye Hospital, at the centre of what is now the largest science, clinical and academic campus in Europe.
