Liverpool regeneration bringing new tenants to Queen Square

Construction work is now underway on the transformation of the property in Queen Square, Liverpool, that once served as the Rat & Parrot pub.

The £1m development, designed by Liverpool firm DK-Architects, will see a new façade of perforated aluminium cladding, glazing and LED lighting installed on the 14,500 sq ft building. W H Snow, also based in the city, has been awarded the construction contract.

The work is designed to provide space for a number of new tenants, which will be joining companies like Buffalo Jacks, La Tasca and Nando’s. Renovations are expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

Daniel Hynd is the MD of Promenade Estates, the company that operates the Queen Square area. He said: “There are lots of exciting things happening at Queen Square in the next few months and we’re happy to announce that W H Snow have started construction on site with the transformation of the old Rat & Parrot building.

“The regeneration of the pub is part of the next phase of growth for Queen Square. The renovation of the building will provide space for three new tenants which will bring new international names to the city and cement the strong leisure offering already available in the area.”

The construction director for W H Snow, Tom Murphy, said: “We have worked alongside Promenade Estates for the past couple of years, including the construction of The Prom @ New Brighton project, and we’re looking forward to continue this working relationship with the regeneration of the Rat & Parrot pub in Queen Square.”

Promenade Estates is now closing up negotiations with potential new tenants for the building, and hopes they will be up and running in time for Christmas.
