Relative Insight Expanding Lancaster-Based Team

Lancaster-based consumer and brand language analysis platform Relative Insight is expanding its team based at Lancaster University. Based on ten years of research at the University, Relative Insight’s technology was initially developed for law enforcement agencies to identify criminals by analysing at scale the language used in conversations. The company sees language as an untapped resource for marketers, and has adapted its technology which turns language into data.

Having raised funding with Enterprise Ventures, the company officially introduced its commercial offering in June 2014 and now works with major brands, such as Microsoft Mobile and Twitter, and agencies like Maxus, Saatchi & Saatchi, and Havas helia. The Relative Insight technology compares language use through dimensions such as demographics, consumer groups, location, competitors, and over time to help marketers address and track the relevant audiences to their brands, all of which can be done automatically through its platform. The platform looks at language found in forums, review sites, social media, marketing copy, website copy, and any other channels where language is used in relation to a brand.

Relative Insight was recently named one of the top marketing technology startups in the world by Unilever Foundry and Lions Innovation at Cannes Lions Innovation Festival. The team is led by CEO Ben Hookway, CTO Phil Greenwood, COO James Walkerdine and CMO Rich Wilson. With offices in both London and Lancaster, the team is looking to expand its Lancaster-based team in development, UX, and analyst roles to support its growing client base and continue adapting the product.
