Leeds and Wakefield top Help to Buy tables

As Barratt Homes Yorkshire West Division celebrates its 500th Help to Buy sale, new figures released by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) reveal Leeds and Wakefield are the top two performing areas in the county for buyers taking advantage of the government backed Help to Buy scheme.

Leeds came out on top, having 666 Help to Buy sales recorded since the scheme launched in 2013, with Wakefield not far behind at 446 sales. Barratt Homes Yorkshire West is now celebrating its own 500th Help to Buy sale in the region, with the success of the scheme reflected in Barratt’s development at The Foundry in Wakefield, where purchasers using the scheme have reached over 60% and St Andrew’s View in Morley, Leeds, where 52% of the properties have been bought using Help to Buy.

Barratt Homes is encouraging homebuyers throughout all parts of West Yorkshire to take part in the popular scheme, which has already helped tens of thousands of people across the country buy a brand new home. The scheme enables anyone to put down just five per cent as a deposit for their new home and take advantage of a government equity loan, providing access to more affordable mortgage rates.

Sue Smout, Sales Manager at Barratt Homes Yorkshire West, said: “Leeds and Wakefield have produced some fantastic results for Help to Buy and it is great to see two local authorities achieving such high figures for the scheme in West Yorkshire. Help to Buy has proved so helpful for so many homebuyers throughout the country, particularly at our St Andrew’s View and The Foundry developments and we would encourage anyone else looking to buy a home with lower upfront costs to get in touch.”

Help to Buy allows any homebuyer to secure a brand new home under the value of £600,000 with just a five per cent deposit. The government lends the buyer 20 per cent of the value of the property in the form of an interest free equity loan for five years, meaning that buyers then gain access to some of the great mortgage rates currently available with just a 75% mortgage. Available to all homebuyers, not just first timers, the scheme helps anyone looking for a boost up the property ladder. The Foundry is a development of three and four bedroom homes just under a mile away from Wakefield City Centre, available from £134,995. St Andrew’s View offers three and four bedroom homes from £197,995 and is situated in the traditional Market ton of Morley, Leeds.
