Manchester-based indie game developer seeks advertisers for upcoming sci-fi horror

A North West computer game developer is seeking Manchester companies to occupy advertising space in its upcoming release.

Manchester-based Pixelbomb Games is creating Beyond Flesh and Blood, a horror game that will see players moving through a futuristic version of the city, complete with digital billboards and video billboards.

The firm is now looking for local companies that wish to have their branding and adverts hosted on the digital space within Beyond Flesh and Blood.

When asked which businesses would benefit the most from in-game advertising, a Pixelbomb Games spokesperson said: “Companies that are looking for an innovative way to get brand recognition that’s affordable and easy. Product placement takes a lot of prep and can cost a fortune for just five minutes.

“In games, it’s easier to reach a key audience with potentially hours of brand exposure. Usually, all that’s needed is the logo, and we’ll do the rest. 17% of the world’s population play video games – it’s a huge opportunity.”

Pixelbomb Games has already reported receiving interest from a number of Manchester’s eateries.

With an October release date set for Beyond Flesh and Blood, Pixelbomb Games is preparing for two launch events that will take place simultaneously in Manchester and London.

The company hopes that as well as providing exposure for Manchester-based enterprises, the adverts will add an element of ‘reality and depth’ to the experience offered to gamers.

A test demo for the game was released before Christmas 2014 and has had 10k unique downloads.

Speaking about the upcoming release, a company spokesperson said: “Pixel bomb Games has a wide, organic and active social audience currently. As we broach August, the studio will be working with a number of marketing delivery partners in the UK and US to ensure Beyond Flesh and Blood has a strong standing in the PC marketplace.

“We are also actively working with Steam and Humble Bundle, two of the world’s biggest PC gaming marketplaces. Microsoft are fully supportive of Pixelbomb Games, and will be leading the charge on Xbox One for for Beyond Flesh and Blood, which will be available in 2016.”

Founded in 2011, Pixelbomb Games is headed by lead coder Phil Muwanga, director Lee Blacklock and art director Steven DeSykes.

The spokesperson added: “We have been lucky enough to gain the feedback from thousands of gamers at events across the UK – and Manchester gamers have definitely been enthusiastic, along with German gamers! We are expecting large take up locally but also in the USA.

“Because ads can be designed as an intrinsic part of the game’s world, they are definitely less intrusive and are subtle; walking down a street, you would expect to see shop signs and shop fronts. Brands can add a reality to games. It should be noted that the game’s dystopian theme means there will be sparks flying from the video billboards!”
