Brand Summit on the future of Sugar
Brand Summit on the future of Sugar
Manchester agency host city’s first Sugar Summit
The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) is calling on the government to halve the current recommended daily intake of sugar to reduce obesity risk and improve dental health. The outcomes of this call to action could have huge ramifications for producers and marketers of products containing sugar.
A Manchester based insight and innovation agency, Agent, is to host an event for brand owners, marketeers, and insight and innovation experts on the topic of ‘sugar’. The ‘Sugar Summit’ will take place on 16th September 2015 at the Urbis Building in Manchester city centre, letting brands know what consumers really think on the subject, to uncover what the future holds for sugar and to taste some sweet and some not so sweet creations to help expand thinking.
With the British Medical Association calling for a 20% tax on sugary drinks to combat obesity, consumer brands are increasingly grappling with how to future-proof their product ranges to meet their customers’ changing needs. This event is designed to help deliver the insight from the key audiences that influence brand strategy on this increasingly controversial subject.
“In our constant dialogue with our consumers we hear that many are confused about good and bad sugars; whether sweeteners are really the right way to go and basically how much sugar is too much,” commented Lynne Barcoe, Partner at Agent. “This event is designed to bring together experts in this field of food and drink and consumer behaviour to provide valuable insight for brands tackling the issue of sugar in their brand and product development.”
Lynne Barcoe, Partner at Agent and Founder of MumPanel, will look at the issue of sugar from the viewpoint of consumers as well as from the experts’ point of view i.e. school chefs and nutritionists. Respected futurist Mike Ryan from ‘Fusion Futures’ will also look at how the changes in technology and society will influence the accepted use of sugar over the next decade. In addition, expert food and drink technologists Sally Hookham and Justine Ash, from The Food Business, will be looking at options to reduce, suppress and enhance sweetness without adding extra refined sugars.
The event is free and open to all those involved in the management of brands developing products that contain sugar. To secure your place please send your details to: sugarsummit@agentwithin.com.
Places are limited and will be assigned on a first come first basis. The Sugar Summit will be held on September 16th 2015 from 14.00 until 17.00 @ Urbis Building M4 3BG and will be followed by early evening drinks. http://www.agentwithin.com/sugarsummit/
