Shaving subscription startup Cornerstone smashes crowdfunding target in 48 hours

Cornerstone, the subscription service for shaving products, has smashed its crowdfunding target of £500k in just 48 hours.

The London-based company, which is currently overfunding to the tune of £890k, has secured investment from 246 investors, including experienced angel investors Will Hobhouse (former chairman of Jack Wills) and Nick Wheeler (founder of Charles Tyrwhitt).

Launched in June 2014, Cornerstone has grown rapidly from 0 to 5,000 subscribers in 12 months, and recently won Best Razor in the 2015 Shortlist Grooming Awards - beating off competition from industry-leaders Gillette and Wilkinson Sword.

With a successful first year under its belt, Cornerstone turned to Crowdcube to raise funds to grow its Oxford Street-based team, develop the product range, invest further in marketing and move into international markets.

Oliver Bridge, Founder and CEO of Cornerstone said: “I started Cornerstone because I thought it should be much simpler to have a great quality shave. In our first year we have done a great job of establishing ourselves but we have always been constrained by our startup budget and small team.

“This funding will allow us to seriously ramp up our efforts and start to really disrupt a marketing place that has been dominated by two big brands for too long.”

Cornerstone sells razors and men’s shaving supplies on a flexible subscription model. By combining German-engineered razors and British-blended skincare products with an e-subscription service, the startup is aiming to disrupt the marketplace.
