York’s Chocolate Works development sells 30% of properties

After opening to the public late last week, David Wilson Homes’ Chocolate Works development has already sold 30% of the first properties released on Saturday.

The former Terry’s Chocolate factory, based in York, now features luxury one, two, three and four bedroom apartments and homes.

Designed by London architect Richards Partington, the apartment complex incorporates unique and bespoke features, including the installation of a five ft. chocolate orange sculpture.

With 30% of the properties selling over the launch weekend alone, it is expected that The Chocolate Works apartments will be purchased rather quickly.

As reported last month, the former Terry’s Chocolate factory, which was built during the 1920s, was branded as being in “structural disrepair” by planning officers, therefore approval for the residential scheme was given.

Opened in 1926, the factory stopped operations ten years ago when the company moved overseas.

Paul Hogan, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the reception the launch of The Chocolate Works has received. The praise and positive feedback has been overwhelming and this has been supported by the huge demand for the properties at the development.”

“We have worked very hard to ensure this iconic development compliments its historic setting and offers luxury and bespoke homes that will stand the test of time. The site was left derelict, so to see it come to life once more is extremely rewarding.”

Mike Grimes, local historian and former factory worker at the site, added: “This site is steeped in history and plays a major role in York’s rich tapestry. Chocolate has been a major contributor to York’s economy for years; indeed it has shaped the city. To see this site being brought back to life with the love and passion it warrants is absolutely fantastic.”
