Should you go for Magento 2.0
The most popular of the open platforms for ecommerce websites, Magento has announced the release of its beta version, Magento 2.0. The official announcement for the upgraded version was made some five years earlier, 2010 to be exact. However, now that beta Magento 2.0 is finally released, Magento specialists and other experts of the industry are studying the viability of the release.
Magento experts are not sure whether the delay in releasing the Magento 2.0 would be doing any good to the company. Once the most popular open-ended platform for ecommerce websites, Magento has lost some of its sheen due to the delay in rolling out the upgraded version. In the meanwhile, the retail space that has seen leaps of changes in the past five years has been demanding better and stronger platforms. Though Magento had been able to retain its space and clients, it is fast losing out to new startups and platforms that are offering features almost similar or more than those in Magento 1.
At the moment, a Magento specialist is wondering whether it is too late for Magento to make an impressive comeback considering the fact that it took another year after the beta version, when it has been made available to the public.
Information as released by eBay, the owners of Magento, the new release was planned with the aim to provide some new features that would ease the job of the developers and give them better and powerful tools so that they can come out with innovative solutions. Over and above the existing features that Magento 1.0 offered, the company wanted to improve the scalability and performance of the platform while streamlining the process of customization. It aimed to make the installations easier and simpler, while offering better quality, documentation and testing resources.
However, testing of Magento 2.0 by a Magento expert revealed the fact that the newer version does not have anything new. In fact, it can be considered as a jQuery rewrite. The features in the beta version are almost similar to the previous version. There are no advanced automation tools for sales and marketing, a very important aspect for the merchants. There is no simple way to upgrade from Magento 1.0 to 2.0 thereby making it imminent to take the help of developer to move from version to the other. However, all is not lost for Magento 2.0 as it is still considered to be very helpful to the developers because of it being an open-sourced platform.
With the online retail space witnessing huge developments, the future of Magento 2.0 is uncertain.
