Solar Family Fun Day Proves a Roaring Success

Hundreds of local people gathered for a free American themed family fun day held at Ashington football club. The event was held to celebrate National Solar Independence Day, which formed part of a series of events taking place across the country.

The event, hosted by Ashington based Saving Energy Renewables North East in conjunction with the Solar Trade Association, Enphase Energy and Arch the Northumberland Development Company, offered residents in the community the chance to participate in a fun filled day of entertainment.

Children could play on a variety of inflatables and bouncy castles, participate in games such as a penalty shootout and could even dance the afternoon away in an indoor disco. A range of BBQ food and drink was provided for all attendees.

Speaking about the success of the event, Garry Coulson, MD at Saving Energy said: “The event was a huge success and I would like to say a special thanks to everyone who attended.

“It has been fantastic to bring the community together and provide local people with a fun packed day of entertainment. The event was also a great opportunity to raise awareness of the benefits of solar amongst local residents. As a company our mission is to help the community to save money on their bills through installing energy efficiency measures such as solar panels, which could potentially cut their electricity bill in half.”

And this commitment to community engagement is very much evident in the recent accolade received by the company – Green Business of the Year - awarded by The Journal and in recognition of the company’s achievement in lifting almost 800 people across the north east out of fuel poverty.

A special appearance was also made by local MP Ian Lavery, who presented a speech on the benefits that solar can provide local people.

Alison Taylor, from Stakeford attended the fun day with her children Lily and Hannah. Alison said: “The day has been great from start to finish. The kids have had a great time and we have been really impressed by how many activities and giveaways have been provided by the companies. We were also unaware of the benefits of solar so the educational element of today has been useful,–we’re definitely going to look into getting solar installed on our property.”

Saving Energy has further plans to make this free family fun day an annual event to celebrate Solar Independence Day.

Established in 2014, Saving Energy Renewables North East offer a range of renewable products and services to both domestic and commercial customers. The company’s end to end services extend from biomass, solar PV and solar thermal right through to external wall insulation, LED lighting and boiler changes.
