Funding boost for games area
Fundraising for a multi-use games area at a Grangemouth primary school has been given an extra boost thanks to a leading regional builder.
Productive Parents has received £1000 from Persimmon Homes East Scotland to help develop a games area for the pupils of Beancross Primary School and has become one of the first groups to be given a cash boost by the builder as part of its year-long initiative to support local communities.
Persimmon has a development at Ashridge, off Aitken Crescent in Falkirk and was keen to support the group with its plans to improve the area for children at the school and in the local community.
Parents in the Grangemouth area have been actively fundraising to develop the play area at the school by holding bag-packs, prize bingo, school fayres and sponsored obstacle courses.
The donation is part of Persimmon’s Community Champions project, which will see a ringfenced fund pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities over the next 12 months throughout its region. Two groups will now be chosen every month to receive a match-funding donation and organisations are being encouraged to apply by completing an online form atwww.persimmonhomes.com/charity.
This month, a donation was also made to Lawfield Nursery in Mayfield who are developing an outdoor learning environment for the children.
Chair at Productive Parents, Marnie Forster, said: “We are delighted to be chosen by Persimmon Homes for funding the money donated will not only benefit the pupils but also the local community.
“The kids will be able to use this during class time for PE, playtime and lunchtimes, and after school clubs. The nearest park to this school is over busy roads so this will enable them to play safely and independently.”
Jim Kirkpatrick, managing director at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, said: “We are delighted to support Productive Parents because it is important for us to support the communities wherever we build. It is clear that the group strives to create a quality environment for the children at the school and hope it can continue its good work.
The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.
