Wilmslow's Mather & Co cements European ties with Belgian exhibition design
Cheshire-based design consultancy Mather & Co has strengthened its links to Europe after being selected to create a new Belgian beer attraction in Brussels.
The firm, which is located in Wilmslow, is set to convert the old Brussels Stock Exchange building, the Palais de la Bourse, into the Belgian Beer Palace.
The firm’s design director, Dan Procter, commented: “This is one of the biggest and most exciting projects that we’ve ever worked on and everyone at Mather & Co is really looking forward to it.
“The exhibition will be developed in harmony with the historic building and will showcase the rich history of the brewing industry and how this culture has evolved in Belgium.”
He added: “We aim for the exhibition to show the spirit of invention that is unique to Belgian brewers.”
Architects Baneton Garrino and Robbrecht en Daem will work alongside Mather & Co on the project, which will create a two-floor exhibition overlooking the Palais de la Bourse’s great hall space. The display will showcase over 1,000 beers produced by breweries across Belgium.
The attraction, which is set to open in 2018, is expected to draw more than 350k visitors, who will be able to sample beers in the building’s rooftop bar and explore the history of the country’s brewing culture.
