Newcastle company expands its work with nationwide project
A Newcastle-based company is expanding its work with the launch of a new, UK-wide project working with the nation’s community of VW Campervan enthusiasts.
Alex Henry is the founder of Curiosity Creative, a Newcastle-based social enterprise which specialises in creating digital stories – short films made using photographs and audio. The company usually concentrates on creating stories about the North East but is now launching a national project which aims to record the history and heritage of VW campervans.
“We primarily work with companies and individuals in the North East, helping them to record their own digital stories which can be about anything from an organisation’s history or achievements to a person’s memories and stories from their life.
“This new project, called Home Is Where You Park It, is a new venture for us and we hope to work with people across the whole of the UK,” said Alex.
The digital stories will illustrate the history and heritage of the VW campervan through the stories of the people who drive them, gathered at workshops and interviews with people across the UK.
“Owning a VW campervan is not just about the van, it is about a way of life. It’s about the stories and memories experienced and collected along the journey.
“I want to capture these stories and experiences, gathering them directly from people in the VW community and immortalising them in the form of the Home Is Where You Park It book and website,” explained Alex.
The Home Is Where You Park It team plans to organise a series of events and film screenings to celebrate the stories which are gathered during the project.
Alex has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help get the project off the ground.
“Anyone can get involved by backing the campaign. I really hope people will want to be a part of the project, whether that’s by backing it or by sharing their stories of VW ownership with us,” said Alex.
