Sheffield auctioneer firm sees record sales of £12.5m

Mark Jenkinson and Son has reported sales of more than £12.5m, the best results in the whole of Yorkshire to date, according to the latest industry research.

The Sheffield-based auctioneer firm beat off competition from more than 20 other firms across the region to achieve both the best sales and market share results in Yorkshire for the first half of 2015, according to analysis by Essential Information Group (EIG).

EIG, which analyses UK-wide auction data and is recognised as the industry standard, found Mark Jenkinson and Son achieved sales between January and June of at least a third higher - nearly £4m - than its nearest rival.

The latest statistics also give Mark Jenkinson and Son, which has offices in Sheffield and Chesterfield, the highest market share in the region to date with 17.6 per cent – six percentage points higher than the next best performing auctioneer.

Mark Jenkinson and Son also sold the most lots, with 136 compared with the second placed firm’s 120, while the most recent two sales totalling £10m gave the firm its best post-recession sales results.

Adrian Little, Head of the Auction Department at Mark Jenkinson and Son, said: “EIG analyse all auction data and are held in high regard amongst the country’s auctioneers so these figures are very welcome news indeed.

“We are thrilled to have reached sales of £12,543,850 - a success rate so far this year that puts us among the highest performing top 30 auctioneers in the UK – plus our July auction has since pushed sales up to £17m to date.

“A traditional sale by auction remains a tremendous way of selling the right type of property and enables all interested parties to bid openly for their next project.

“In times of recession, auctions can be seen as a method of last resort but I believe it to be the first option for selling any ‘property with potential’ - regardless of the prevailing market conditions - and our EIG results for the first half of 2015 very much bear out that view.”

Mark Jenkinson and Son was established in 1877 and is the largest independent firm of Chartered Surveyors in South Yorkshire.
