Styles&Wood nabs £2.2m Lowry refurb contract

Styles&Wood, the property services and project delivery specialist, has won a £2.2m contract to refurbish the Lowry complex in Salford Quays.

The firm, which has offices in Manchester and Lancaster, plans to revamp the building’s existing dining area, in addition to extending the Lowry facilities onto the external terraces that face the Imperial War Museum North and the Manchester Ship Canal.

Styles&Wood landed the contract after a competitive tender process. Expected to take 13 weeks to complete and beginning in August, the project also includes an enlarged conference facility and a new bar.

The company’s operations director, Paul Lonsdale, said: “The Lowry is an iconic building in the North West and we’re delighted to be working on such an important project for the region.

“The centre attracts more than 800,000 visitors a year and the refurbishment works will ensure that The Lowry continues to be a prime leisure destination for both tourists and local residents alike.”

He added: “We have a great deal of expertise across the leisure sector, having recently completed a project at Leicester City Football Club, and this is a fantastic opportunity to further showcase our expertise in the industry.”

During the development, project management services and quantity surveying will be provided by Prescot-based AA Projects,

AA Projects’ director, Niall Wright, said: “This is an exciting opportunity that forms a key part of The Lowry’s 2020 Vision project.

“Alongside these works to the restaurant and bar areas, we have also been involved in managing the delivery of an exciting sustainability improvement LED replacement project throughout The Lowry, which will significantly reduce the energy demands of the building and reduce running costs.”

He continued: “The restaurant and bar refurbishment will much enhance the visitor facilities and improve links to MediaCityUK and the surrounding area.”
