Third phase of Doncaster leisure centre gets underway

Three’s the magic number as final phase of Adwick Leisure Complex refurbishment gets underway

The third and final phase of work to improve Adwick Leisure Complex is underway, bringing the completion of the 13 month project a step closer.

The Doncaster Culture and Leisure Centre (DCLT) venue, on Welfare Road in Doncaster, has been undergoing a dramatic refurbishment since July 2014 to improve the centre’s facilities.

Phase three will see the refurbishment of the venue’s car park, with the creation of an additional 70 spaces and a new layout to improve traffic flow.

The leisure complex’s changing rooms will also undergo reconstruction to include new cubicles, lockers, toilets and showers - as well as new ‘village’ changing facilities to replace the old single sex rooms and offer private cubicles, as well as an additional four larger changing rooms for schools and groups.

The pool hall and changing rooms will get a new heating and ventilation system, too, and new circulation pumps to improve water flow in and out of both of Adwick Leisure Complex’s pools.

Michael Hart, chief executive of DCLT, said: “We’re excited to be moving on to the third and final phase of Adwick Leisure Complex’s refurbishment.

“Over the last 12 months we’ve seen the centre transform from the aged site it once was, to a truly modern venue that will provide substantial benefits to the local community.

“The addition of new car parking spaces, better changing facilities and a new ventilation system will make all the difference to those who use Adwick Leisure Complex, enhancing their experience and bringing the venue in-line with the high standards we have here at DCLT.”

The first two phases of the project have seen the venue gain a new, fully air-conditioned gym - three times the size of the complex’s former one, as well as a 10-pin bowling alley, children’s soft play area and a new grill and bar.

Michael added: “We’re thrilled with how Adwick Leisure Complex is looking and the facilities we can now proudly offer our customers and the local community.”
