Proposed designs for new garden city homes

Work on the design of new homes set to be built in Ebbsfleet Garden City is nearly complete following a consultation with residents both from the emerging new development and the local community in Swanscombe.

Persimmon Homes exchanged contracts with Land Securities earlier this year for the sale of 170 residential plots as part of the new garden city. It is hoped an application for planning permission for the new homes will be submitted to the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation within the next few weeks.

Construction on the 4.2 hectare plot marks the second phase of development at Castle Hill, one of three planned modern villages in the 269 hectare Eastern Quarry development which forms part of the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City.

Persimmon’s sister company Charles Church South East will build the new homes and has worked closely with Land Securities, Camland Developments Ltd and local planning officers to produce the final designs.

A joint public consultation has been staged with a public exhibition also held at the Observatory, in Dartford, where members of the public were encouraged to give their feedback.

Lance Taylor, Development Director for London and the South East at Persimmon Homes, said: “The aim of the exhibition was to illustrate the background to the scheme and its proposed siting with images providing a ‘flavour’ of the development.

“Overall, it was successful and the feedback very positive. In general, everyone welcomed the scheme and was happy that the development was progressing.

“We are committed to the highest standards of design and construction. Therefore, throughout the entire consultation process, any comments or suggestions we have received have been taken into account and, wherever practical and appropriate, incorporated into the proposed scheme.”

Charles Church South East hopes to begin building in the Autumn providing two, three and four-bedroom family homes to the high design standards demanded by a Garden City development.

Land Securities is also working with Kent County Council to develop a two-form intake primary school at Castle Hill to serve local families.
