Sandwell residents offered help to reduce fuel bills
Wates Living Space has teamed up with Sandwell Council to help residents in privately owned households across the borough to make fuel savings through a range of energy efficient measures.
The project specifically targets individuals and families that have been identified as being vulnerable to fuel poverty by the Department for Energy and Climate Change.
Energy-saving measures available could include loft and external wall insulation along with the installation of highly efficient boilers and heating controls.
Any available external funding sources, such as government grants, will be identified and explored for residents that qualify.
Aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of privately owned homes in Sandwell, the project will also contribute towards the council’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions in the borough.
Kerry Bolister, director of homes and communities at Sandwell Council, said: “With people increasingly falling into fuel poverty, this new initiative working with Wates Living Space will help deliver advice and energy efficient improvements to private sector homes and vulnerable residents in the borough.”
Stewart Reid, business director for Wates Living Space, said: “We have a wealth of experience as an energy services provider and working with Sandwell Council as their preferred provider for home efficiency services is a testament to our track record in the West Midlands. For those affected, fuel poverty can be a difficult and distressing experience so we are pleased to have the opportunity to use our expertise to help alleviate this problem for Sandwell residents.”
Wates is planning to start work on external wall insulation improvements in the Oldbury Green area later this month.
Residents living in privately owned homes that would like further advice or information about the scheme can contact Wates on 0121 553 5488.
