Thousands expected at Stockport Old Town Fringe Festival
Stockport’s largest commercial landlord, Orbit Developments, is supporting the Old Town Fringe Festival for a second year as part of a two-year commitment worth £8,500.
Head of the organising committee, Joe Barratt, said the commitment to sponsorship made the first event held in 2014 a roaring success: “Orbit Developments has shown great confidence in us and the event and we are thrilled to be working with them again to bring the festival to the town.”
The Festival, which takes place from the 28th to the 30th August, includes exciting themed entertainment, activities and stalls at venues around the town centre.
Food and music will be the theme for the Friday events around the market place, with an eclectic mix of music styles on offer at venues including Seven Miles Out and Bakers Vaults. Foodie Friday will also be taking place in the market square, with a wide variety of street food stalls.
On Saturday 30th the theme is art with free art and craft-making workshops and an Art Trail in various venues around the Old Town, including Seven Miles Out and the newly-opened Artism gallery at 8 Market Place above the dungeon. In the evening, Festival favourite Gideon Conn will be curating an evening of music at Seven Miles Out.
On Sunday 31st the Festival will be celebrating street theatre with dazzling displays from aerial acrobat Dick Danger, Pif Paf and The Circus House.
There will also be an exotic mix of musical entertainment including performances by Lazlo Baby, Mama Goose and The Retrosettes. Sunday’s event will have a wide range of street food traders and craft ales, and once again Robinsons Brewery will be supplying a Stockport Old Town branded bottled ale exclusively for the Fringe Festival.
Tony Jones, Managing Director of Orbit Developments, said: “Last year’s festival was a great success and attracted over 10,000 people to the town centre, boosting footfall to the town centre’s businesses. The event gives visitors a taste of what’s available in central Stockport.
“The Fringe Festival is a fantastic way to celebrate all that Stockport has to offer and we’re keen to show our support again.”
