Wakefield residents move into new homes
Residents in South Elmsall, Wakefield opened the doors to new homes this week following the completion of a new development by affordable housing contractor, Wates Living Space.
Forty-four of the 45 new-build homes at Gordon Place have been handed over to Chevin Housing Association, and families and individuals have been settling into their new community. The last remaining home is due to be completed next month, following the installation of a specialist bathroom adapted for use by a wheelchair user.
The new development comprises 37 two and three-bedroom homes, seven two-bedroom bungalows and one four-bedroom supported-housing bungalow. Each features a double driveway and rear garden.
Keith and Irene Bostock moved into their new home after struggling to cope with their previous property due to ill health. Mr Bostock commented: “We never thought we’d get such a fantastic home. Life is so much better now; the bungalow is perfect for us, we have very friendly neighbours and our children can come and check on us more regularly as they live close by. We’re very happy we made the move.”
The housing scheme is part of a wider £10.3m development in South Elmsall, which also includes Frickley Mews, an Extra Care scheme comprising 67 apartments for those aged over 50 with assessed-care needs and people living with dementia. These apartments are due for completion by the end of 2015.
Mick Holling, Interim Regional Managing Director for Wates Living Space, commented: “Reaching the end of a successful building project like Gordon Place is always immensely satisfying but seeing residents living in and enjoying their new, high quality homes is particularly rewarding.
“Above all, building new homes is about improving quality of life and we have shared with Chevin Housing Association a deep commitment to ensuring that these properties provide a comfortable and safe living space for residents.”
