From fashion to art exhibitions and festivals OPR gives you the low down on what not to miss this August…
Festival Frenzy
The summer season means one thing for music lovers – festival time! August brings with it a host of amazing festival choices, including Creamfields, V Festival and Reading/Leeds Festival. Whether you’re taking to the fields to enjoy the likes of Ellie Goulding, The Chemical Brothers or The Libertines, this month’s festivals are set to be some of the best yet!
Great British Bake Off
It’s back! Die-hard cake and Mary Berry fans, the wait is finally over for the eagerly anticipated GBBO, which returns to our screens on 6th August. What can we say, we’re a sucker for a Victoria sponge and a snazzy bomber jacket.
Monument Movies
Grey’s Monument sees the return of the ever popular NE1’s Monument Movies – free film screenings of family favourites, new movies and old classics run throughout the school summer holidays. Whilst deckchairs are on a first come, first served basis, the public are encouraged to bring their own seats, picnic rugs and refreshments. Now all we need is the sun to stay shining.
Surf’s Up
Make the most of our beautiful North East coastline and try your hand at surfing this month. Tynemouth Surf Company surf school can facilitate all ages and abilities and groups of varying sizes – so perfect for a group excursion or with just a couple of your mates. Who needs Bondi?!
Embrace your inner art critique
The University Gallery at Northumbria University Newcastle plays host to the ‘Drawing with Scissors’ exhibition, featuring lithographic prints of Henri Matisse’s exuberant cut-outs, produced in the last four years of his life. Art buffs will be able to indulge in many of his iconic images such as The Snail and the Blue Nudes, giving a stunning overview of the final chapter of Matisse’s long and much-admired career.
