Housebuilder supports community initiatives
A local school and a village hall have been given a boost in funding, thanks to donations from the country’s largest house building company.
Cranfield Church of England Academy and Weldon Village Hall have each received grants of £1,000 after being selected by the Persimmon Homes Midlands Community Champions scheme.
The year long initiative aims to support local groups and charities with a pot of £24,000 of match-funding available. Organisations can apply via www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
Cranfield Church of England Academy, in Bedfordshire, received the grant to put towards some new playground equipment for their pupils.
Joanna Farbon, the head teacher said “We at Cranfield Academy love a challenge.
“Our Parent and Teacher Association has worked tirelessly with the school to raise funds for this equipment. We have run a heap of events, from Christmas fetes to gift shops, to try to raise money for this equipment.
“We can’t thank Persimmon enough for the donation, putting us even closer to our fundraising goal.”
Weldon Village Hall in Northampton is a thriving community hub, hosting a wide range of events for both the local schools and the general public.
Fundraisers hope to have an outside area resurfaced, making it safe for the pre-school group.
John Starmer, one of the charity’s trustees, said “We are delighted that we can finally get this problem sorted, making it safer for the children, so a huge thank you to Persimmon Homes for their generous donation.”
Persimmon Homes Midlands head of sales Claire Davidson said: “We are delighted to be donating funds both to Cranfield Academy and Weldon Village Hall, as both projects will benefit the younger members of their communities.”
The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme, where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate £750,000.
Persimmon Homes Midlands has developments throughout Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Oxfordshire.
