Billingham building firm cements future with new recruits

Billingham-based RPD Builders has doubled its workforce on the back of achieving record turnover.

The construction firm, which operated with just two members of staff during the difficulties of the recession, now employs 12 people after welcoming six new recruits.

Jeremy Speke has joined as project manager where he will oversee the company’s ongoing construction jobs, with Alan Kernan and Anth Hyndman both training to become site supervisors through the National Safety Passport Supervisor Course. The company has also invested in training current staff member, Dean Antrobus, in the same course.

In addition, Katie Davison has been appointed to the role of client liaison officer and Nathan Tonks and James Dodsworth have been taken on as electrician and bricklaying apprentices, respectively.

The appointments follow RPD Builders hitting the £1m turnover mark, which has been fuelled by a number of significant contract wins.

Peter Davison, owner of RPD Builders, said: “The company has come a long way since the recession when the construction industry, as a whole, took quite a hit. It’s been a challenging period and taken a lot of hard work and dedication over the last few years to turn things around, but now everything is falling into place and the outlook is very promising for RPD Builders.

“We are now in a position of strength and these latest appointments will help secure the long term future of the firm and allow for further growth and job creation. It is an exciting time for RPD Builders and I would like to welcome all the new members of staff to the team.”

Established in 2001 by Peter Davison, an experienced builder and site manager, RPD Builders is a building and construction firm and its expertise ranges from domestic house modifications, such as extensions and conversions, to commercial projects of almost any scope or size. The firm has worked with numerous clients throughout the whole of the North East.
