Housebuilder brings 800 jobs to south west
Premier developer David Wilson Homes is investing heavily in Exeter’s reputation as being one of the best cities to live and work in the UK.
Underlining its commitment to the area, David Wilson Homes is currently working on nine developments locally which will between them deliver more than 400 new homes and provide 800 jobs in the construction sector over the next five years.
The developer is building more than 200 homes within four miles of the city centre - the remainder are in prime locations across Devon and Cornwall.
Paul Moran, Managing director of David Wilson Homes in Exeter, said: “We arrived in Devon and Cornwall two years ago and have enjoyed continued success which has been really encouraging. We aim to make a significant contribution to the local area through our developments, both in terms of the high quality homes we are building and the jobs we will be creating.
“Exeter, particularly, has proved extremely popular. We strongly believe that community development is one of the most important aspects of any new housing scheme and we hope that we will go a long way towards improving the lives of people who live in the local area.”
The city of Exeter is the regional capital for culture, leisure and shopping. Exeter is known throughout the country for its University which is consistently ranked in the UK’s top 10 and for being the home of The Met Office, the main weather forecasting organisation for the United Kingdom and one of the most significant in the world
Exeter has been identified among the top ten most profitable locations for a business to be based with around 35,000 people commuting into the city on a daily basis from nearby surrounding towns and villages. According to the Institute of Policy, Exeter is the city with the greatest productivity in the country.
Derek Phillips, vice president of Exeter Chamber of Commerce, said: “Building high quality homes has got to be a major priority in the city region as we continue to attract people from all over the country – and indeed the world. We very much welcome a developer with David Wilson Homes’ reputation for its commitment to investing so heavily in the area.”
