Manchester United reveals new South Korean partnership
Manchester United has announced a new partnership with Nexon, the online games publisher and developer based in South Korea.
As part of the new deal, Seoul-headquartered Nexon will become United’s first Social Football Gaming Partner in the country, giving fans there access to a Korean version of free-to-play football game FIFA Online 3 that features the Manchester United brand.
Bosses at the club hope the deal will bring United closer to its 15m Korean followers.
The group managing director of Manchester United, Richard Arnold, said: “Korea is an extremely important country for Manchester United and we are pleased to be teaming up with Nexon to bring our Korean fans closer the club they so passionately support.
“Nexon’s expertise in creating innovative and exciting game content makes them the ideal partner for Manchester United and we look forward to sharing with fans the latest in gaming technology.”
The United-branded version of FIFA Online 3 will feature caricatures of a number of footballers, including Denis Law, Andy Cole, Bryan Robson, Ji-sung Park, Denis Irwin and Sir Bobby Charlton.
Nexon Korea’s CEO, JiWon Park, commented: “Nexon takes great pride in offering comprehensive gaming platforms for Korean audiences and has paved the way for others to emulate in the local gaming industry.
“Through our partnership with Manchester United, we look forward to delivering an enhanced gaming experience to our EA Sports FIFA Online 3 users in Korea.”
