Power station chips in for Royal British Legion

Lynemouth Power Station has teamed up with The Royal British Legion Newbiggin and North Seaton Branch to support its Poppy Appeal Charity Golf Tournament.

The Royal British Legion, known to millions for the work it does helping past and present British servicemen and their families, hosted its annual fundraiser at Newbiggin Golf Club.

Local employer Lynemouth Power Limited sponsored the event for the second year in succession, donating £2,000 to The Poppy Appeal in addition to providing trophies and prizes on the day.

The tournament successfully generated over £3,000 in much-needed funds which will help the charity continue providing practical and direct support to members of the British Armed Forces and their dependents.

Vaun Campbell, managing director at Lynemouth Power Limited, said: “We are extremely proud to continue our charitable sponsorship again this year. The Royal British Legion and its volunteers provide a vital service in the work they do.

“As a local company we are committed to supporting initiatives which bring people together to have fun and raise money for an important cause. This year’s tournament has been another success with over 80 teams representing local businesses and the community taking part.”

The Poppy Appeal Charity Golf Tournament at Newbiggin Golf Club has been an annual fixture for five years. To date the event has raised over £9,000 for The Royal British Legion.

Keith Laws, county chairman of the Royal British Legion Northumbria, said: “We are so grateful for the support of Lynemouth Power, with their sponsorship we have more than doubled the amount raised which makes a huge difference to our local Poppy Appeal.”
