Tech Guru Turns Pit Master

A match made in heaven, The BBQ Collective’s residency at The Hop, Sheffield is set to open to the public at 4pm on Friday 14 August 2015.

The unique partnership will combine The Hop’s great beers and live music, which it has made its name for, with an unrivalled flavour of American BBQ, creating a truly unforgettable experience.

The BBQ Collective, an American chef-led BBQ concept, is the result of a life-long passion for all things smoked from Executive Chef and co-founder, Jeffrey Wright. Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jeffrey’s love for American BBQ began at age just 14, when he started developing his culinary skills working in the kitchens of his hometown. Many years and a successful career in banking technology later, Jeffrey took the step to swap the financial markets for the BBQ pit, teaming up with his wife Mathurot to bring his dream to fruition.

Learning the trade from some of the most established joints on the infamous “BBQ trail” through North Carolina, Tennessee and Kansas City, as well as Hill Country Barbecue Market, New York City. The BBQ Collective will fire up its authentic American smoker and serve the Steel City hearty portions of its famous ribs, brisket, Texas hot link sausages and buttermilk fried chicken amongst other classics. Using traditional methods that come straight from the pits of the Deep South, all of The BBQ Collective’s meats are smoked low and slow on a custom made American smoker. Burning American hickory, local British oak and apple wood, you won’t find a BBQ joint as authentic as this in the whole of Yorkshire.

The mouth-watering concept is a welcome addition to The Hop Sheffield as it celebrates its new look refurbishment. Spilling over two floors, The Hop Sheffield is located at the West One Plaza, where revellers can indulge in a host of award-winning hand-pulled real ales and new range of craft keg beers. Famous for its musical inspirations, the bar will host live music every weekend, with some of the regions most talented performers already scheduled to appear throughout August.

What’s more, guests also have the option to compete in The Hop Sheffield’s legendary pub quiz every Tuesday evening, where delicious food, great beer and expert knowledge flow in equal measure to challenge the knowledge of Sheffield’s finest.

Mathurot Chuladul, Marketing & Communications Director and co-founder of The BBQ Collective, said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Ossett Brewery to deliver this exciting venture at the perfect location within Sheffield.

“Ossett has an excellent track record of opening and operating a highly successful portfolio of breweries, restaurants and bars; together, we intend to bring the three elements that make for a truly exceptional BBQ experience: BBQ, beer and live music.”

Armed with a genuine desire to provide guests with an overall great experience, the combination of The Hop Sheffield and The BBQ Collective’s expert knowledge in BBQ and beer will take advantage of the venue’s setting and popularity amongst the Sheffield crowd and leave locals wanting more.
