Forgetful driver to go bald for charity

A FORGETFUL lorry driver is set to shave his flowing locks for charity as a punishment for not logging in his deliveries.

Paul Madden got a ticking off from his boss at Nicholson’s Transport for forgetting his phone to register drop-offs at customers across the region.

But instead of a fine, managing director David Nicholson threatened to shave of Paul’s flowing golden locks.

Paul agreed and is set to go bald in September to raise hundreds of pounds for Butterwick Hospice in Stockton.

The dad-of-two said: “It was my own fault. I forgot the smart phone one day to log in my deliveries and deserved a ticking off. But when David said I should cut my hair as a punishment I thought it was a good way to raise some money for the Hospice.

“It’s getting too long and warm in the summer anyway, so I’m looking forward to having a bit of air around my ears. But I’ve been told I have to grow my hair a bit longer first to get the full effect.”

Paul is set to have his head shaved on September 12 at Nicholson Transport’s summer barbecue at its Billingham headquarters.

David Nicholson added: “Paul knew he had been a bit of a naughty driver and was very apologetic about forgetting his phone. I joked that we should shave all his hair off but he came back the next day and said he would do it, as long as we could raise some money for the Hospice.

“It’s a fantastic idea and he’s managed to collect quite a bit in sponsorship already. And hopefully, it will get a bit more air to his head so he won’t be so forgetful in future.”
