New chief operating officer signs for Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster Rovers has just provided a major boost for its boardroom staff with the appointment of a new chief operating officer.
This new position, given to Liam Scully, was formed to provide a strategic overview for all ongoing and future projects with Club Doncaster.
Scully, who is the former CEO of the League One club’s Foundation, was appointed following an extremely competitive recruitment process that drew applicants from across the UK.
Scully told the the club’s official website: “Being entrusted with the great responsibility of leading Club Doncaster in search of continued improvements for all parts of the group, not least Doncaster Rovers & the Keepmoat Stadium, is a huge privilege that I am honoured to accept.
“As a child my Saturdays were all about spending time with my Dad & Uncle going to watch Rovers and, as a result, I have so many happy memories from these years.
“I hope I can use these personal experiences, matched with my business credentials to drive Club Doncaster on to new heights, but, within this, paying due respects to our heritage and the principles that form our DNA.”
Prior to this appointment, Scully spearheaded the Foundation when it was named the Sport & Recreation Alliance’s ‘Community Club of the Year’ in June.
Scully continued: “The immediate plan is to consolidate our position as a group and understand how and where we can increase our commercial viability working as a collaborative (Rovers, Dons, Stadium and Foundation), while at the same time controlling our administration and back office spending by the same principles.
“Equally, Club Doncaster will have a creative twist where we can look at exciting new ventures which generate new revenue streams that can be re-invested in the hope we can continue to grow organically as well as in advance of where a club our size should, in theory, rightfully be.”
The creation of this role indicates that Rovers are kicking-off a new era under Club Doncaster, which is being led by chief executive Gavin Baldwin, who added: “We were extremely flattered by the interest this post had attracted but in the end we are delighted to have secured Liam’s services in this new role.
“The Owners and I have been fully committed to the Club Doncaster project for some time now and this latest appointment hopefully signifies our intent to take Club Doncaster forward at an accelerated level but with great respect to what our fans believe is our identity.
“I would like to wish Liam all the very best as we welcome him into his new role, which will hopefully enjoy the same level of success the Foundation achieved during his tenure.
“Equally paying due care to our award winning Foundation and community outreach arm, we hope to be in a position to announce the new Foundation CEO very shortly.”
