Transmit Start-Ups hits major milestone

Transmit Start-Ups has now supported 750 businesses under the Start Up Loans programme, the company’s loan book to over £5 million.

More than 200 of those businesses, many in the creative and digital sector, are based in the North East.

The company is one of the success stories of Gateshead International Business Centre – the home of 32 businesses. Beginning with one unit at the business centre in 2013, Transmit Start-Ups has now expanded to three.

Transmit, itself a startup, is made up of three partners, who have set up and run their own business over the last 20 years. The team offers start up loans, free business advice and free mentoring support.

One of the first business start-ups to receive help from Transmit Start-Ups was Now Film, also based in the International Business Centre; Now Film received help in putting together its business plan and had regular mentoring sessions across the first 12 months of trading.

Transmit Start-Ups is an official delivery partner of the Start Ups Loan Company, a government initiative chaired by former Dragon’s Den investor, James Caan.

Richard Myers, Commercial Director of Transmit Start-Ups said: “Moving into GIBC was a major catalyst in our business growth. We previously worked from home but, after winning the Start Up Loans contract, it soon became apparent that we needed a physical space. The business has gone from three directors to a team of nine, and a trickle of loan applications to 350 per month. GIBC has allowed us to scale up our operations quickly and easily.”

Josh Kerr of Now Film said: “Transmit helped us start Now Film and I know that without the help we received from them it would have been a struggle to get this company off the ground. It wasn’t just about money either, they gave us top notch support and of course we happened to be in the same building, so there was a definite added benefit to being just a few doors away.

Josh added: “Since starting the company and working all the hours in GIBC to make it a success we have managed to win some major contracts for quick turnaround corporate videos. Our client’s include Lloyds Bank, Hilton Hotel, Accenture and Intu Properties among many others.”
