Chorley firm clears the way for latest Banksy project

Lancashire-based horticultural services company Glendale has cleared an area of land to prepare it for the latest exhibition from illusive street artist Banksy.

To get the 2.5-acre site on the Weston-super-Mare seafront ready for the Dismaland attraction, a team from Glendale, which is headquartered in Duxbury Park, Chorley, removed vegetation and delivered cleansing services.

A supervisor from Glendale will remain at the site for project’s six-week duration, providing continuous support to accommodate increases in footfall and litter.

David Buckley, a contract manager with Glendale, said: “This was a top secret project which required us to deploy our specialist skills within a restricted time frame to ensure the area was ready for the big reveal.

“The town will have all eyes on it for the next six weeks, so it must be kept in top condition.”

Glendale has an existing £17.5m contract for tree surgery, grounds maintenance, beach management and recycling with North Somerset Council.

In addition to Banksy’s creative input, the Dismaland attraction features work from 58 artists, including Turner Prize-winner Damien Hirst.
