Support service receives cash boost from builder

A support service that offers advice to those affected by Encephalitis has been given a cash boost from a regional housebuilder.

A donation of £1,000 has been awarded to The Encephalitis Society by the Persimmon Homes Yorkshire’s Community Champions initiative, which aims to support local communities.

The society, based in Malton, was established in 1995 to provide telephone support and literature for those suffering from the condition. Fast forward to 2015, the charity is now a world-leading resource providing international support as well as working within the community to raise awareness.

Phillippa Chapman, director of operations at The Encephalitis Society, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Persimmon. Their generous donation will go towards helping us to maintain our dedicated helpline and support information service.

“This devastating condition affects 6,000 people each year in the UK alone. And as we receive worldwide enquiries we are the only resource of our kind in the world. So we feel it is vital we maintain our services.”

Simon Usher, deputy managing director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, explained: “We were impressed by The Encephalitis Society’s unique service.

“We hope this donation goes someway in helping the society to continue providing such a valuable service”
