New East Cramlington residential development gains unanimous committee backing

Northumberland County Council’s planning committee have voted unanimously in favour of plans for a proposed new residential development in East Cramlington.

North East employer Banks Property put forward a planning application for the Chapel View residential scheme, which include 192 two-storey homes suitable for families and first time buyers located on an eight hectare site to the south of the B1326 and the east of the A189, 12 of which are bungalows.

The scheme, which is located to the east of the Northumberland town’s new specialist Emergency Care Hospital, and which would also include areas of informal green space, garnered 37 letters of support from local people, compared to just two objections, and was recommended for approval by Northumberland County Council’s planning officers.

John Ruddick, senior property development manager at The Banks Group, said: “We had a very encouraging response from local residents and businesses to our Chapel View proposals, as well as widespread recognition of the benefits that the project could bring to the area, and having had our planning application recommended to them for approval, we’re very pleased that Northumberland County Council has been minded to take a similarly positive view of our plans.

“There is a clear and increasingly pressing need across the North East to boost the available supply of quality homes, a need which the Chapel View scheme will help to address in this popular part of Northumberland.”

Family-owned Banks Property has undertaken wide-ranging consultations with local residents and community leaders about the project over recent months, and has also been gathering ideas from local people about how they think the overall Chapel View development package might achieve the maximum economic, environmental and social benefit for the local community.

Ideas that have been put forward so far include making enhancements to local footpaths and cycleways, improving recreational and play areas for children and introducing new traffic calming measures.

The Chapel View scheme has been designed to bring a range of economic, employment, environmental, supply chain and social benefits to the local area, which would follow on from the £800k of funding provided by the Banks Community Fund to local groups and good causes in Northumberland over the last decade.

John Ruddick added: “The design of the Chapel View scheme complements existing residential development within the local community, and it is located in an area where we are certain there will be strong demand for the type of high quality homes that will be built on this site.

“The Banks Group has been working in Northumberland for well over three decades, and we’re looking forward to starting work on this latest stage of our long-term investment in the county.”
