Roll up for Great North Run Kinesio Taping!
If you’re running the Morrisons Great North Run this year, then make sure you get yourself along to the marquee in Mill Road Car Park, Gateshead Quay early the day before, for some expert, pre-marathon Kinesio Taping applied for free!
North East Company, Kinesio UK will be helping to ease training aches and pains, relaxing tight muscles and soothing stressed-out sportspeople at the World’s Biggest Pasta Party in Gateshead on Saturday 12 September between 9.30am to 5.30pm.
But you’re urged to go along as early as possible to take advantage of this, as organisers are expecting 22,000 people to turn up at the event and the annual Kinesio offer is always over-subscribed and extremely popular! Last year there was a constant queue of runners waiting to be “Kinesio-ed”.
This taping application on Saturday 12 September by qualified Kinesio practitioners is free if you buy six Kinesio pre-cut at the event, (usually £6.99 each) for £20, or just £1 if you buy a single pre-cut pack for £5.
For anyone with a place in the world’s biggest half marathon, it’s well worth going along and taking advantage of the support Kinesio offers - especially as qualified therapists can often charge up to £60 per session in their own clinics.
The daredevil local fund-raiser and multiple marathon runner Ivan Hollingsworth described Kinesio Tape this year as “literally holding us together. We couldn’t do without it”
Kinesio UK will have senior staff as well as three Kinesio-qualified practitioners in attendance who can apply supportive taping to knee, calf and Achilles tendon injuries and also tape typical runners’ ailments such as shin splints, tendonitis and plantar fasciitis. They can also give you advice.
Visitors are asked to bring shorts or loose clothing if they want to be taped as applying Kinesio Tape to a runner wearing skinny jeans is tricky!
The Great North Pasta Party on Saturday 12th September is the largest pre-running event of its kind in the UK and every year it offers great food, sporting advice and entertainment as well as front row views of the Great North CityGames. There are lots of fun things to do including interactive activities for kids and adults, a festival-style food market, sports retailers and a huge stage for athlete interviews.
Every participant in each event in the Morrisons Great North Run Weekend is given a free bowl of pasta with their run number but the Great North Pasta Party is also open to spectators.
Managing Director of Kinesio UK, Kevin Anderson says: “As a North East-based company, Kinesio UK is always proud to be associated with the Great North Run and delighted to attend this event. So many athletes find Kinesio Taping very effective as it is supportive, helps to alleviate pain and doesn’t restrict movement. One lady last year was so relieved to find us at the Pasta Party she was nearly in tears! Because correctly applied Kinesio usually stays in place for at least 3 – 5 days, it’s absolutely fine to be put in place the day before the race.”
