Flybe expands Liverpool John Lennon Airport service

Europe’s largest regional airline has today (Monday, September 7) launched its new service from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, giving those traveling to the continent for business or leisure the ability to connect to an increased number of long-haul destinations.

Flybe’s inaugural flight departed from LJLA at 07:15 this morning, taking senior representatives of the airport to meet a delegation from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

The firm will now operate up to three daily flights from Liverpool, potentially better connecting business owners in the city to international destinations such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo, as well as cities in Europe that are accessible via Amsterdam.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s CEO, Andrew Cornish, said: “In the past, re-establishing a ‘hub link’ from Liverpool has been the most requested service by stakeholders and passengers across the Liverpool City Region.

“Both business and leisure passengers are now able to take advantage of the convenience of being able to start their long-haul journeys from their home airport, as well as bringing a further boost for the region’s tourism offer and inward investment opportunities.”

The new service from Flybe follows further expansion from the company at LJLA. Recently, the airline announced a new daily service taking passengers to Edinburgh that launches at the end of next month.

The firm also has plans to increase capacity on its existing Belfast and Isle of Man services by offering additional departures, bringing Flybe’s total number of weekly flights to and from LJLA to 150.

Paul Simmons, the CEO of Flybe, commented: “Flybe is delighted to play a part in making it possible for Liverpool customers to access the world through Amsterdam and, just as importantly, make it easier for the rest of the world to come to Liverpool.

“We already have a number of codeshare and interline arrangements with long-haul carriers that, in the future, have the potential to benefit passengers even further.”
