Export adviser raises £750 with sponsored cycle ride

MORE than £700 has been raised for a series of Yorkshire charities by senior adviser at overseas trade specialist, Chamber International, David Attia (pictured) by taking part in the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride this summer.

Charities including Candlelighters, Yorkshire Cancer Research, Hollybank Trust, Heart Research UK and Wetherby and District Lions are benefiting from the £752.50 which David Attia raised by completing the 73-mile sponsored ride from Wetherby Racecourse to Filey in seven hours and 16 minutes.

David Attia, who completed the ride for the first time in 2014, rode with two of his friends, Steve Partridge, Guiseley, and Colin Lees, from, Birmingham, both of whom have taken part in the event before.

He trained with twice-weekly rides of between 15 and 40 miles in the couple of months leading up to the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride on June 6 which had about 2,000 participants.

“The ride is very well organised and well marshalled with refreshments stops every 15 miles or so” David Attia says.

“The real fun is raising money for these very worthwhile causes and keeping fit at the same time. There is also a great sense of camaraderie with the other 2,000 participants who all have the same goal of completing the ride.”

An additional handicap for David, a former international sales director with Jacuzzi, Bradford, this year was that his left pedal came off 10 miles after the lunch stop at Terrington in the middle of an isolated road in a forest. However, after an emergency repair, he even managed to complete the event 20 minutes faster than in 2014.

Chamber International, which also runs the We are International Export Network as part of Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership’s We are International campaign, helps hundreds of new and experienced exporters with a wide range of specialist services to make exporting easier and more cost effective each year and is exclusively partnered with London headquartered global testing organization, Intertek, to assist with a wide range of issues including product conformity.
