Refractiv get ‘activ’ for charity

A team from Leeds based technology company, Refractiv, faced their fears and successfully abseiled down one of the city’s tallest buildings to raise money for a children’s cancer charity.

The challenge was set by commercial property management company and client Bruntwood, to support Candlelighters. The charity who provide essential services and support to children with cancer and their families, across Yorkshire, raised £7,500 raised on the day which will go towards new patient grants.

Kate Smith, Marketing Executive at Refractiv, said: “As soon as I heard about the charity and the challenge I signed up straight away, but that was when I was sitting behind my desk!

“When I reached the top of the building and could see all of Leeds below it started to seem like a bad idea, but knowing the money was going to such a great cause, spurred me on to abseil the 140ft”. It was such a buzz that I think I might actually do it again!”

Anna Hull, Leeds Charity Champion at Bruntwood, said: “We are delighted that, together with help, not to mention the bravery of our clients and suppliers, we have been able to make this donation to Candlelighters. It will really make a positive difference to children and families across the county when they are facing the challenges that a cancer diagnosis brings.
