Yorkshire Dales National Park development secures £700k funding deal

Hornblower Developments Limited has secured a £700k funding package from The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) to develop eight new houses in the North Yorkshire village of Bainbridge.

Hornblower Developments Limited was launched by David Collinson and Graeme Newton.

For the past 20 years, David has been landlord of the Rose and Crown Hotel in Bainbridge. He has joined forces with Graeme, who is the managing director of Randall Orchard Construction Company based in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

The duo have commenced work to build a mixture of two and three bedroom affordable homes around the Rose and Crown Hotel.

Located on Wensleydale’s rolling hills, The Rose and Crown Hotel is an ideal location for new housing to be developed which has been in the planning for four years.

Hornblower Developments has already sold five of the houses off plan to a mixture of couples, families and those retired - existing and returning residents or those working in the National Park are eligible to apply.

David Collinson, co-director of Hornblower Developments Limited, said: “By developing some of the land at the hotel it is giving local people the chance to buy affordable housing and is one of the very few schemes approved for development within the National Park.

“We are delighted at how we have blended the new development with the old and traditional look of the village, and we hope that this will have given the authorities confidence thereby encouraging them as a result of this success to give the go-ahead for similar such projects to be built in the immediate future.”

Chris Johnson, senior relationship manager at RBS, added: “David is a well-known individual to the bank having walked into our Union Street branch in Aberdeen in 1974 to conduct business. Combined with Graeme’s experience in property development we were in no doubt they would form a professional working partnership and provide a high standard of housing in the area. We wish them both well as they continue to market the remaining three houses priced from £155,000 and bring this project to a very successful completion.”
