Iconic Liverpool club set for major overhaul
A Liverpool building best known as the home of an iconic club has been sold for an undisclosed sum to a London investor.
The Havelock Building at the top of Bold Street once housed The Cabin club, where guitarist and singer George Harrison is believed to have found the inspiration for his first song with The Beatles. The old nightclub has now been snapped up by developers with a major revamp in the pipeline.
Nick Huddleston of CBRE is a joint letting agent on the property, along with Dougal Paver of Merrion.
Nick said: “It’s in a perfect location facing the Grade II St. Luke’s church at the top of Bold Street and we’re expecting strong interest from gastro-pub operators and restaurateurs.
“This part of the city has seen an extraordinary number of top quality, quirky restaurants and bars open in recent years and they’re all thriving.”
He added: “Operators like Maray, Mowgli, Berry & Rye and now Neon Jamon are transforming the area and this is probably the most visible site there is.”
The building’s new owners are believed to be considering their options, although a full refurbishment has been confirmed. The owners will seek planning permission for new roofing and an updated, glazed front at street level.
Nick continued: “The building has incredible presence and, when opened up, will animate the street and draw more people to the area. The first-floor dining room has floor-to-ceiling sash windows with lovely views over St. Luke’s and will be sure to draw in lunchtime and evening traffic.”
If planning consent is granted, work on the site will commence this autumn.
