Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival cements partnership with local business

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival celebrates its 11th Festival thisyear with a new programme and vision as well as a new Festival Director.

But it’s not all change, as the Festival renews its partnership with Berwick based business Simpsons Malt for the third year in a row.

With an expanded focus on new cinema and artists’ moving image, and with the backing of Simpsons Malt the Festival presents the European premiere of Peter Burr’s Cave Exits, an ambitious new project in which New York-based Burr presents a Tarkovsky-inspired multimedia narrative which is set inside a 4-channel video cube, located within Bank Hill Ice House.

Visitors can literally immerse themselves in the installation by entering the cube itself, stepping into avideo-game inspired virtual universe.

Simpsons Malt have established a precedent for the unusual, the entertaining and theevocative with their sponsorship of the Festival. In previous years supporting new commissions from Field Music and Addictive TV - both of which brought the mediums of film and music together in epic live performances, and both of which have gone on to tour nationally and internationally.

Richard Simpson of Simpsons Malt said “We’re delighted to be working with the Festival again this year. The reputation of the Festival coupled with its ethos of pushing the boundaries of cinema andintroducing us to new things is exactly the type of approach which excites us and we’re certainly all looking forward to visiting Cave Exits this year!”

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival runs 23rd – 27th September at The Maltings Theatre & Cinema, Berwick and other venues throughout the town.
