Entrepreneur launches new Chorlton restaurant with six-figure loan

A new restaurant has launched in Greater Manchester and created more than a dozen jobs after the entrepreneur at the helm of the project secured £100k from loan provider Business Finance Solutions (BFS).

The cash allowed restaurateur James Plant to launch Mish Mash, a new eatery serving British cooking-inspired dishes, on Beech Road in Chorlton, creating 14 new jobs in the process.

The £100k loan from BFS, which was provided from a £24m fund set up to help businesses in Greater Manchester unlock growth and support local employment, was used for refurbishment work and the purchase of new equipment.

James, who has worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years, said: “The concept of Mish Mash is something that I have been developing and refining for years and, thanks to the support from BFS, I have been able to create exactly the type of innovative and playful venue that I know people will enjoy.”

In addition to the BFS funding, James brought together a number of investors to help him establish Mish Mash, including Churchwood Financial Services’ founder Mike Noblett and art dealer Frank Cohen.

Andy Nichols, BFS’ senior loan manager, commented: “Manchester has always led the way with new and exciting places to eat and drink and Mish Mash looks set to bring a genuinely different experience to an area of South Manchester that is well known for its cosmopolitan dining and cafe culture.”

BFS is part of the Manchester Growth Company and supported by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, a government-backed initiative through which more than £24m will be invested into the region’s growing businesses over the next 10 years.
