AIS wins South Tyneside traineeships contract

Industrial trainer AIS, based in North Shields, has won a contract with South Tyneside Council to deliver a traineeships scheme.

The AIS Technical Traineeship scheme offers young people aged between 16-24 invaluable ‘real-life’ industry experience and a level 2 qualification at the same time as giving employers a chance to ‘try before they buy’ at no cost to themselves.

So far 30 youngsters have enrolled for the Traineeships, which aim to give them the skills and confidence to secure a job or an apprenticeship.

Following eight weeks of formal training and education in a wide variety of engineering and industrial skills at AIS’s state-of-the-art industrial training village on North Tyneside, the trainees will undergo an eight week work placement with large, well respected local employers such as WD Close and Shoreland. Employers taking part in the scheme get to assess the suitability of potential future employees or apprentices at no risk to them.

AIS’s Group Strategic Manager, Kate Lovelock, who is co-ordinating the scheme said: “It’s fantastic to secure this prestigious public sector contract which will significantly impact the lives and future careers of local youngsters.

“Traineeships are an excellent way of helping young people make their first move into employment. The AIS Technical Traineeship scheme gives young people a thorough grounding in the basic skills and ‘go-get attitude’ needed for the world of work.

“As well as setting young people off on a strong footing to develop their future careers, our traineeships will also help businesses to identify and nurture young talent for the future as part of their succession strategies.”
