BBC star Steph McGovern 'looking forward' to meeting Wigan businesses
Broadcaster Steph McGovern has said she is excited to meet Wigan businesses at the forefront of the government’s Northern Powerhouse initiative next month.
Morning TV star Steph, who is BBC Breakfast’s main business presenter, is due to address North West companies at the Wigan Business Expo on October 9, covering topics such as the North’s role in the wider UK and economy and improving skills training for young people.
Steph said: “I’m really looking forward to coming to Wigan and talking to businesses. It’s an exciting time as Wigan and Greater Manchester are pretty much at the forefront of the Northern Powerhouse.
“It’s very unusual for the North to have such a positive focus on it. That can only help the region and we all need to use it as best we can.”
She added: “It gives businesses confidence and puts the area on the national and international stage.”
One of the North West’s largest business expos, the event last year attracted 1,500 attendees from across the UK.
Wigan Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, Cllr David Molyneux, commented: “We are very pleased that Steph is coming to speak at the Wigan Business Expo15.
“For many she is the face of the business news in the UK and will provide a fascinating insight into the world of business.”
