City accountant to take part in Memory Walk

In a bid to raise vital funds and awareness of dementia, a top city accountant is set to take part in the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk.

On Sunday, October 4, Director of Haines Watts Liverpool Russell Silverman will join thousands of other supporters for a six- kilometre journey, in order to help change the lives of people affected by the illness.

By taking part in the flagship walk, Russell hopes to collectively highlight the importance of staying active, as almost eight in ten people (79%) do not exercise - despite evidence that it can reduce a person’s risk of dementia.

Russell said: “I’m glad to be taking part in this charity event for The Alzheimer’s Society, as it’s a cause that’s very close to my heart. Not only do I want to raise much needed funds for the charity, which can help sufferers to live a happy and independent life for longer, but I also hope that the event raises awareness for the often misunderstood progressive disease.

“It is eye opening to discover that this year an estimated 850,000 individuals will suffer with dementia in the UK alone, with the figure set to rise to one million people by 2025. This is why charity initiatives such as the Memory Walk are so important to provide support to those affected by the disease.“

Commencing at Liverpool’s Festival Gardens at 11am, participants will take part in a scenic walk along Riverside Drive towards Otterspool Promenade before returning to the Gardens for refreshments.

Similar planned walks will go ahead across England, Wales and Northern Ireland throughout September and October, with participants receiving sponsorships from family and friends to donate to the society.
