Liverpool building destroyed in Toxteth riots set for £8m makeover

A project from to transform a Liverpool site destroyed in the 1981 Toxteth riots is now underway.

The work, carried out by contractor Newry Construction on behalf of developer Elliot Group, will see a derelict site on the corner of Upper Parliament Street and Kingsley Road revamped to provide 116 studio apartments for rent.

Elliot Lawless of Elliot Group, the firm behind the upcoming £40m Wolstenholme Square development, explained that the £8m scheme is targeting professional who work in the nearby universities and hospitals.

He commented: “Upper Parliament Street is beginning to reassert itself as one of the south end’s great thoroughfares and our scheme will add to this welcome momentum.

“The area has always proven popular as a rental location due to its proximity to the Women’s Hospital and the universities, as well as the cafes and restaurants of the neighbouring Georgian quarter.

With designs by Liverpool-based KDP Architects, the development is due for completion in September 2016 and includes a games room and gym. Liverpool firm Golding Estates has been assigned as the scheme’s letting agent.
