Pub Landlord Al Murray to launch Stockport drum business

Comedian and TV personality Al Murray is set to team up with the drummer from British rock band Kasabian to launch a new drum business in Stockport.

The stand-up comic, best known for his Pub Landlord character, has partnered up with Kasabian’s Ian Matthews, as well as drum maker Keith Keough, product designer Alan Kitching and military marching drummer Stu Warmington to establish the British Drum Company.

Murray, who will be the new company’s director, said: “I’m very lucky to have met some brilliant people in the world of drums thanks to the Pub Landlord, and now it’s great to have the chance to roll my sleeves up and get properly involved: in lots of ways I feel it’s our duty to quality.”

The team behind the brand has said that only shells made in Britain will be used to hand craft the drums, the first of which will be showcased at the London Drum Show in November.

Ian Matthews commented: “I am excited to be part of this amazing new project. A new company that not only embraces the held traditions of drum design, but to inspire and further the development of this wonderful instrument.

“To be part of that process is such a privilege, and to do it with this team is an honour.”

Discussing the venture, Keith, who previously worked for drum manufacturer Premier Music International Limited, said he is “positive” about the team and The British Drum Company brand.

He added: “The passion, drive and commitment for this new venture will be apparent throughout our new and exciting range of drums.”
