NetDespatch Winner at Retail Week Supply Chain Awards

Amazon and Smiths News with NetDespatch and Blackbay, awarded Supply Chain Innovation Project of the Year for Pass My Parcel convenience-store based ‘Click and Collect’ parcel shop service

Marlow – 28th September 2015 – NetDespatch, the leading shipping and parcel data management platform for postal and parcel carriers is proud to announce that together with Amazon, Smiths News and Blackbay it was named winner of the Supply Chain Innovation Project of the Year Award winner at last week’s Retail Week Supply Chain Awards.

The awards ceremony, which celebrates supply chain achievements within the retail industry, took place at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel London and saw an elite panel of three judges whittle down the shortlisted candidates to determine this year’s winner. Commenting on this particular award the judge said: “The winner of this category has completely reinvented its operating approach with its innovative approach to fulfilment.”

The Supply Chain Innovation Project of the Year category recognises innovations that are truly revolutionising retailers’ supply chains. Pass My Parcel offers a market-leading proposition to both ends of the supply chain, offering speed of delivery from point of order to pick up, that is not currently provided by any other competitive parcel shop network, as well as giving consumers more choice of when and where they can collect their parcels.

Pass My Parcel, the third party ‘Click and Collect’ parcel shop network, was the brainchild of Smiths News Trading Ltd, which, as part of its diversification strategy, identified an innovative solution to utilise its existing distribution network and infrastructure. After just three month’s development by NetDespatch and BlackBay, Smiths News was able to announce the launch of ‘Pass My Parcel’ in late 2014. The launch customer was Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, who can now offer its customers the opportunity to collect their parcels from a newsagent nearby on the same day that they are ordered.

Matthew Robertson, Commercial Director, NetDespatch commented: “We are incredibly proud of this achievement which recognises the great collaborative work of NetDespatch, Blackbay and Smiths News to deliver this service to Amazon. It’s an even bigger achievement when you take into account that NetDespatchand Blackbay created the system solution for Pass My Parcel in a period of just 16 weeks. We are all thoroughly delighted to be recognised for this prestigious award.”
